Grand Seiko used its June 24, 2026 press release to tighten the core of the Evolution 9 Collection rather than chase a one-off headline model. The update spans nine references in total, pairing five Spring Drive U.F.A. watches with four Hi-Beat mechanical models and wrapping the whole refresh around better bracelets, sharper case material choices, and familiar nature-led dials.

That makes this launch important for more than a single reference. It shows how Grand Seiko is maturing Evolution 9 into a more coherent family, with tool-free micro-adjustment clasps, broader use of Ever-Brilliant Steel, and a cleaner split between the Shinshu-inspired Spring Drive pieces and the Shizukuishi-rooted mechanical watches.

Design and materials

The five Spring Drive models keep the natural landscape approach that has become central to Grand Seiko’s modern identity. SLGB013 and SLGB015 reinterpret the Lake Suwa pattern in a lighter blue tone meant to evoke morning light on the water, while SLGB007 introduces a darker moonlit take in High-Intensity Titanium. SLGB009 and SLGB011 continue the series with white birch and Atera Valley inspirations.

Across the refreshed line-up, Grand Seiko adds a three-step micro-adjustment clasp with 2mm increments and gives most models a stronger bracelet taper for improved comfort. Seven of the nine references use Ever-Brilliant Steel, while two are made in High-Intensity Titanium for lower weight and extra scratch resistance.

Technical specifications

The Spring Drive side is powered by Calibre 9RB2, the U.F.A. movement Grand Seiko unveiled in 2025. Officially, it delivers annual accuracy of ±20 seconds and a 72-hour power reserve, which keeps it among the strongest mainspring-driven precision claims in serial production.

The four mechanical references rely on Calibre 9SA5, Grand Seiko’s flagship high-beat automatic movement. It runs at 36,000 vibrations per hour and stores 80 hours of power reserve, giving the refreshed mechanical branch meaningful substance beyond a cosmetic update.

Horomag take

The smart part of this release is that Grand Seiko did not abandon the references enthusiasts already know. Instead, it refined wearability and materials while leaving the successful Lake Suwa and White Birch visual language intact. For collectors who liked the earlier watches but wanted a better clasp and a slightly more resolved bracelet feel, this is the kind of update that matters in daily use.

The timing also matters. Grand Seiko is turning accuracy, finishing, and ergonomic detail into a system-wide argument rather than a niche talking point. The new Spring Drive references are scheduled to arrive from September 2026, while the mechanical models follow in October 2026.
