Grand Seiko used its June 24, 2026 press release to refresh the core of the Evolution 9 line rather than chase a one-off novelty. The update spans nine references, split between five Spring Drive models powered by Calibre 9RB2 and four mechanical pieces running Calibre 9SA5, with a common brief: keep the strong Evolution 9 identity but improve everyday wear.
Design and Materials
The most tangible update is the bracelet and clasp package. Grand Seiko says every new reference receives a three-step micro-adjustment clasp with tool-free 2mm changes, while the bracelet taper is increased to make the watches sit more naturally on wrist. Seven references are executed in Ever-Brilliant Steel and two in High-Intensity Titanium, so the refresh is as much about comfort and corrosion resistance as it is about dial variety.

On the Spring Drive side, the familiar Lake Suwa theme returns in lighter blue dials for the new SLGB013 and SLGB015, while the titanium SLGB007 introduces a moonlit black interpretation. Grand Seiko also keeps the broader nature-first language intact with references inspired by white birch and the Atera Valley around the Shinshu Watch Studio.
Technical Highlights
The headline movement remains Calibre 9RB2, the Spring Drive U.F.A. engine introduced in 2025. Grand Seiko claims annual accuracy of plus or minus 20 seconds, backed by a vacuum-sealed crystal oscillator and IC plus a regulation switch that can be used during service. These Spring Drive references offer 72 hours of power reserve, 10 bar water resistance and, in the case of SLGB015, a more compact 37mm diameter that should broaden the collection’s appeal.
The mechanical half of the refresh sticks with Calibre 9SA5, still one of the most convincing modern high-beat movements in regular production. Grand Seiko pairs its 36,000 vph rate with an 80-hour reserve, a slim gear-train layout and four dial executions tied to white birch scenery and the Genbi Valley near Studio Shizukuishi.

Horomag Take
What makes this release interesting is how little of it feels cosmetic. A tapered bracelet, on-the-fly style micro-adjustment and a cleaner split between Ever-Brilliant Steel and titanium address the parts enthusiasts actually live with, while the 9RB2 and 9SA5 movements keep Grand Seiko’s strongest technical talking points front and center. Instead of reinventing Evolution 9, Grand Seiko is tightening the collection where owners notice it most.
Availability
The new Spring Drive references are scheduled to reach Grand Seiko boutiques and selected retailers worldwide in September 2026, while the refreshed 9SA5 mechanical models are due in October 2026. Australian pricing in the official release starts at AUD 14,500 for most steel references and AUD 16,300 for the titanium executions.
